Diagnosed with a terminal illness in August of 2017, Bruce Baker was told he may only have 3 months to live.

TODAY’S GUEST: Dr. Bruce Baker is president of BecomingMature.org and the former pastor of Washington County Bible Church in Brenham, TX. Prior to this, he was Assistant Professor of Bible and Theology at Grace School of Theology, in Houston, TX.

Receiving a diagnosis of ALS in 2017 and told he had six months to live, Bruce Baker sees terminal illness as a gift from God, but that is not how most people see it. He explores the universal questions of pain: why me, why now, and why this? In this crazy year, most of us can relate!

We talk about our witness as Christians: do we smile and have the joy of the Lord even in the midst of trials? We also discuss how everyone knows deep down that this life is temporary and maybe even the fact there’s life after death, but most people deny or ignore the truth. And a staggering report from the CDC revealing more than 1 in 4 young adults have contemplated suicide in the last month.

For Thou Art With Me: Biblical Help for the Terminally Ill and Those Who Love Them – Two reasons a terminal disease is a gift: first, it leaves you no choice but to face the inevitable; and second, you’ve been given time to get ready. Now, obviously, all people, regardless of their health, have time to get ready.

But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.  Job 2:10

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 1Peter 1:13

“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.” John 5:24

“Teach us to number our days that we might gain a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:12

After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.” 1 Peter 5:10

Four primary concerns or questions human beings have in life: origin, meaning, morality, and destiny.
