Jesus for the non-religious?

The title makes it seem like you’re going to get the biblically-accurate Jesus of Scripture, rather than what the religious Pharisees have made Him out to be. But not so fast, readers. We need to look beyond the captions.
Suuuuure, it’s not:

“Spong challenges much of the traditional understanding that has for so long surrounded the Jesus of history, from the tale of his miraculous birth to a virgin, to the account of his cosmic ascension into the sky at the end of his life. Spong questions the historicity of the ideas that Jesus was born in Bethlehem, that he had twelve disciples, and that the miracle stories were meant to be descriptions of supernatural events.”  (Publisher’s promotion)

Look, you don’t need an öpen mind”to figure out that this is just another humanistic attack on the authority of God’s Word; just an open Bible.
Spong, who calls himself a Christian and wrote New Christianity for a New World (Why Traditional Faith is Dying & How a New Faith is Being Born), reveals his true colors in that he believes Christianity has become outdated and is not believable in what he calls our “post-theistic” world.  Instead, Spong insists that our “only option” is to gut Christianity of its historical teachings and practices and replace them with new ideas that will help us moderns to “touch” and “appropriate” a “God-experience” and a “Christ-experience”…to “seek a new way…to tell the Christ-story.”
