We take so much for granted in America where our religious freedoms are concerned, and many of us can feel somewhat disconnected with our brothers and sisters in the Lord around the world. Being a committed disciple of Jesus Christ is an invitation to mocking and ridicule here in the states, but in many nations it is an invitation to persecution, imprisonment and even death. Despite Satan’s attempts to intimidate or silence Christians, the gospel is being preached in every nation and there are saints who remain committed to Christ.

How can we in America help our persecuted brethren?  Todd Nettleton of Voice of the Martyrs joins us for an update and he says the number one thing is prayer. God is reaching souls around the globe for Christ. God miraculously guided a donkey to bring Bibles to Christians by walking miles after crossing a very dangerous Syrian border. God can use anyone and anything to further His plans!

Also, Tortured for Christ: the Movie, is a very powerful film to be released March 5 at select theaters. Are you familiar with Pastor Richard and Sabina Wurmbrand’s story? Voice of the Martyrs tells us they have 800+ theaters booked for March 5, but have to sell a minimum number of tickets ahead of time for that showing to “lock”. The movie was filmed on location in Romania, with Romanian actors, including shooting INSIDE Jilava Prison, where both Richard and Sabina were incarcerated during their imprisonment under the Communists.

This is a great challenge and reminder for true believers to serve Christ and to witness for Him no matter the cost. Locate a theater near you (or request a showing in your city) and buy tickets at

If you missed VOM Radio last Saturday, part 2 will air this coming weekend featuring the encouraging story about Helen Berhane, a well-known worship leader and gospel singer in Eritrea. The government there suddenly outlawed evangelical churches. In one week these churches went from meeting openly in large public services to being underground, meeting in homes and hiding from police. In the midst of that crackdown, Helen was arrested, beaten and put in prison. Helen shares how she prepared her heart, ahead of time, for the days when she would face persecution. Hear the Scriptures she drew strength from, and how she was able to keep singing praise to God, even as she suffered being locked inside a metal shipping container for many months. A must listen!

IRAN: What about the recent protests? It’s key for Americans to understand that the mullahs (Islamic leaders) are in charge in Iran. Literally, Islam IS the Government. So when people take to the streets to march against the government (literally risking their freedom and even their lives) the reality is that they are also marching AGAINST ISLAM. If the government doesn’t work, Islam doesn’t work! So as we see the upheaval there, we need to understand this is a WIDE OPEN DOOR for the gospel to go forward, because the people have already decided that Islam isn’t the answer.

CHINA: Last week a very large unregistered church was demolished by the government. This was a church of THOUSANDS and has faced consistent pressure and persecution for the last decade. There are new “regulations on religion” that are set to take affect in China NEXT MONTH, and Christians there are concerned about what that will mean, especially when things have become more controlled over the past 2-3 years even under the old regulations.

NORTH KOREA: Todd Nettleton states: “Our February newsletter is going to focus on North Korea as the eyes of the world turn to the Korean Penninsula for the Olympics. VOM is actively serving the people and the church in North Korea through gospel balloons (literally launched form outside the country to float over into NK), Bibles, Radio Broadcasts and through projects I’m not allowed to talk about to get the gospel message into that very closed nation. I hope when American Christians hear “North Korea” mentioned in the news that they take that as a reminder to pray for that nation and for our brothers and sisters who live there.”
