Pastor Mike Abendroth of No Compromise Radio is our guest today. Mike graduated from The Master’s Seminary in 1996 and has been senior pastor of Bethlehem Bible Church in MA since 1997. He’s the author of several books including Sexual Fidelity, Things that Go Bump in the Church, and Discovering Romans.
Today’s discussion is centered around the importance of context when reading and applying Scripture. Context is a safeguard for us, and will prevent us from reading our preferences into the text or ‘Americanizing’ hand-picked Bible verses.
It all comes back to God’s Word. This is our foundation built on the solid rock of Jesus Christ, the Cornerstone.
No matter how much the world and culture change; Jesus Christ is the same and God never changes! We must guard against the lies of the enemy and stop allowing cultural trends and false teachings to influence the church.
BOOK by Mike Abendroth: Evangelical White Lies.
In these last days of widespread deception, there is an urgent need for discernment to identify and reprove the subtle lies that compromise the infallible Word of God. Mike presents a dozen of the most circulated “white lies” within the Christian church, along with the correct interpretation and a clarion call for repentance.
SCRIPTURES
And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. 2 For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified; 1 Corinthians 2:1-2
1 Corinthians 15:1-6, Romans 8:1-2, 1 Timothy 2:8-14, Galatians 3:25-29,
SEGMENT 3
Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, 20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries. Hebrews 10:19-27
