TODAY’S GUEST: author, speaker, singer, and songwriter, Sarah Schieber. With the release of her book, “A Journey Called Grief: A Month-by-Month Reference for those who Grieve,” Sarah hopes her personal story will become a resource she never had when she became a widow and single mother of three children, ages 11, 9, and 6

Her husband, Chad collapsed and died while running a Marathon. A police officer and only thirty-five, in one heartbeat, Sarah became a widow and a single mama.

A Journey Called Grief

My husband died. Suddenly and tragically. I was 33. I had three young children and had just released my first solo album. I was in shock and grief for months after…I barely hung on.

One of the last things my husband Chad did on the day that he died was write in his journal. The next morning, as I waited to tell my children that their daddy was dead, I wrote the next entry. …Although there were plenty of books about other people’s lives through tragedy, there was not a month by month description that depicted the very real struggles of a young widow. NOW THERE IS!

We discuss the struggle and ‘wrestle’ with the grief process, and how to be honest with God while trusting His sovereignty. Sarah shares her story and gives advice to those who face the Christmas season with a death in the family as well as encouragement for single moms.

Remember my misery and my homelessness, the wormwood and bitterness. 20 My soul certainly remembers, And is bent over within me. 21 I recall this to my mind, Therefore I wait. 22 The Lords acts of mercy indeed do not end, For His compassions do not fail. 23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. 24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I wait for Him.” 25 The Lord is good to those who await Him, To the person who seeks Him. 26 It is good that he waits silently For the salvation of the Lord. Lamentations 3:19-26
