TODAY’S GUEST is Pastor John Pennell – of Calvary Chapel, Lake Villa, Illinois since 1994. He was called to be the senior pastor of CCLV in 1999, and has served in that capacity since that time. Since 2005, the church also streams praise and worship along with the reading and teaching of God’s Word on their radio station WLGS 101.5. He also hosts The Cleansing Word podcast.
John and his wife, Lily have been married for 43 years, they have two children and five grandchildren. John is a graduate of Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa’s School of Ministry, and also spent 20 years as a brick mason.
We discuss and clarify teachings of Freemasonry that oppose biblical Christianity, examine some of its roots, explain why it is in fact a religion, The Lodge’s emphasis on rituals, symbols, and good works, and we contrast its beliefs and practices with the Biblical worldview.

Mason’s View: There is no exclusivity in Jesus Christ or the Triune God who is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; therefore there is no doctrine of the deity of Jesus Christ. It is deemed to be un-Masonic to invoke the name of Jesus when praying, or mention His name in the Lodge. Suggesting that Jesus is the only way to God contradicts the principle of tolerance. The name of Jesus has been omitted from biblical verses that are used in Masonic rituals. Jesus, to them, is on the same level as other religious leaders.
